PSYCHOSEXUAL THERAPY
Support That Makes a Difference
WHAT ISSUES CAN PSYCHOSEXUAL THERAPY HELP WITH?
Psychosexual therapy can help with many relationship and intimacy issues. Whatever your gender, sexual orientation or relationship status, psychosexual therapy can support you to feel more comfortable about being intimate.
SOME COMMON ISSUES THAT PSYCHOSEXUAL THERAPY CAN HELP WITH INCLUDE:
Loss of interest in sex
Pelvic pain/ genital pain
Pain with penetration/ vaginismus
Difficulties with arousal
Orgasm difficulty
Erection problems
Ejaculation problems
Sexual phobia
Lack of knowledge/ experience with sex
Feeling like something is wrong with your genitals
Intimacy problems
Desire discrepancy between partners
THERE CAN BE VARIOUS CAUSES FOR SEXUAL DIFFICULTIES INCLUDING:
Physical (overall health and lifestyle, illness, disability, accidents, medical interventions or medications)
Psychological (anxiety, depression or other mental health conditions)
Emotional (unhappiness in the relationship, unresolved grief, previous negative experiences)
Situational (certain situations or environments)
It is preferable that you visit your GP before attending psychosexual therapy, especially if you feel the problem is physical, as this will help rule out any medical causes. Your GP may prescribe treatment and still recommend you attend therapy.
Person Centred Counselling
My training in person centred counselling means that I am able to offer a confidential space for you to talk about whatever is on your mind, you do not necessarily have to talk about sexual problems. Often people just need a listening ear and to be able to voice their worries and concerns. I aim to provide a safe and supportive environment for you to explore your thoughts and feelings; this can lead to increased self-awareness, self acceptance and personal growth. Often my clients tell me that they feel lighter and more at ease by just getting things off their chest.
